Thailand has more than one useful exit point
Bangkok handles the widest selection, but it is not always the best departure city. A traveller finishing on an island can often leave through Phuket, while a northern route may end in Chiang Mai.
Choosing the final city's airport reduces backtracking and makes the itinerary agree with the actual trip.
Bangkok routes and the BKK-DMK difference
Suvarnabhumi uses BKK and handles many full-service and long-haul flights. Don Mueang uses DMK and serves a large low-cost network. The two airports are across the city from each other.
Check the exact airport on every segment. A same-day transfer between BKK and DMK is not an ordinary connection and needs substantial time.
Routes from Phuket
Phuket to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur can document an international departure without a domestic flight back to Bangkok. This is especially practical after a southern Thailand or island itinerary.
Use HKT as the origin and set the date after the final Phuket accommodation night.
Routes from Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai offers selected international connections within Asia. When the desired route is not available on the chosen date, a domestic sector to Bangkok may still be needed before the international departure.
Build the itinerary around services that fit the date rather than assuming every regional route operates daily.
